Pioneers Defeated by Hartwick in E8 Action

Utica, NY (September 24, 2014) – The Utica College women's tennis team dropped its eighth straight Wednesday to visiting Empire 8 foe  Hartwick College at the UC Tennis Courts.  UC was led by junior Rose Zaloom (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) and freshman Monica Johnson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) who teamed up for two wins in doubles play despite losing 8-2.

The duo fought in singles competition totaling seven wins between the no. 1 and no. 2 spots but the Hawks proved tough as they went on the shut out the Pioneers.  Zaloom lost 6-3 and 6-0 while Johnson lost 6-2 in both sets.
UC falls to 0-8 on overall including a 0-6 mark in E8 play while the Hawks even their overall ledger at 4-4 and move their conference record to 3-4.  The Hawks head to Aurora, NY Saturday to face Wells College (1 p.m.) in non-conference play.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday when they welcome Empire 8 rival Ithaca College to the UC Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.  Ithaca, presently undefeated, holds a 5-0 record on the season along with a 4-0 mark in the Empire 8. The Bombers have shut out Alfred and Houghton while beating Naz, 8-1, and Elmira, 7-2.
