Utica, NY (9/3/14)- The Utica College women's soccer team returns to action Friday night as it travels to Potsdam, NY to take on Clarkson University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Utica is coming off two wins last weekend at the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, hosted by Hartwick College… The Pioneers topped Lycoming College 2-1 on Saturday, before winning a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime game against Keuka College on Sunday… Senior
Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) tallied two goals on the weekend, including Sunday's game-winner… Freshman
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) totaled four points, including netting her first collegiate goal, while classmate
Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) also netted her first career tally… Sophomore
Ciara McIlvenney (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) also scored one goal and
Kelly Heimerle (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) totaled 16 saves for the Pioneers.
FRESHMEN FITTING IN: Freshmen
Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill),
Jordynn Miller (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), and
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) have fit into the lineup nicely… Pawlikowski and Miller have started both games, while Berkowitz has started one game so far… Pawlikowski had the game-winner, assisted by Berkowitz, against Lycoming on Saturday… Berkowitz also added a goal and an assist in the Pioneer's overtime win on Sunday.
SCOUTING CLARKSON: The Golden Knights are currently 1-1 after the first weekend of play… On Friday, Clarkson topped Colby-Sawyer College 1-0 in double-overtime, before falling to Plattsburgh State, 3-0, on Saturday… Junior Nikki Carfi scored the lone goal over the weekend… Clarkson went 5-12 last season… This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2007, when Utica won 3-0 in Potsdam.
LOOKING AHEAD: Following Friday's match up, The Pioneers host D'Youville College for their home-opener Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
