Utica, NY (September 24, 2014) – The Utica College women's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of Empire 8 matches against Alfred University and Hamilton College. Utica travels down to Alfred on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match versus the Saxons before heading across town to face the Hamilton Continentals on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

HAMILTONLast Time Out – UC Blanked by the Bombers in Empire 8 ActionThe Pioneers were downed, 8-1, this past Saturday at the UC Tennis Courts by undefeated Empire 8 rival Ithaca College. UC was led freshman
Lu Lu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) who tallied the lone point for the Pioneers winning her singles match in the number six spot.
UC dropped to 0-9 overall including a 0-6 record in Empire 8 action while the Bombers remain perfect at 6-0 on the season and 5-0 in E8 play. IC will take part in the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships this week (Sep 27-29) hosted by Hobart and William Smith (Geneva, NY) in the Northeast Region.
Scouting the Opponents
Getting to Know the Saxons: Alfred is currently 3-5 on the season while hold an eve 3-3 mark in the Empire 8. The Saxons beat Houghton, Hartwick and Nazareth and lost Ithaca, Stevens and Elmira. AU currently has three matches scheduled this week before meeting the Pioneers on Saturday.
Take a Look at Hamilton: The Continentals occupy a 3-0 record on the courts this season after defeating SUNY Cortland, SUNY Oneonta and Union, all by scores of 8-1. HC wraps up the Fall on Sunday with matches versus Utica, on the road, and then SUNY Plattsburgh (2 p.m.) later in the day at home.
Back on the CourtsFollowing this weekend's action, Utica returns home to welcome Houghton College on Sunday Oct. 12
th for its final Empire 8 contest of the season. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Utica College Tennis Courts. The Highlanders a presently hold a 3-9 overall mark including a 1-6 ledger in E8 play.
