UC Soccer Travels to Wells College on Tuesday Night

Utica, NY (September 8, 2014) – The Utica College men's soccer team looks to remain unbeaten as the Pioneers travel to non-conference opponent Wells College on Tuesday afternoon in Aurora, NY. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

WINNING STREAK: The Pioneers have won the last seven matchups against Wells College dating back to 2006 … UC has shut out the Wildcats in three of those seven meetings … The Pioneers have outscored the Express 24-5 in the last seven meetings. 

UNBEATEN: The Pioneers have opened the season 2-0-1 … UC has now outscored its opponents 9-2 over the course of their first three games … The Pioneers managed to remain undefeated after rallying to tie crosstown rival SUNYIT 2-2 in double overtime on Wednesday night.
 
SUPER SENIOR: Senior defender Chris Stashko (Apalachin, NY/Apalachin) is off to a great start this season as he has a goal and three assists in three games … He now has three goals and eight assists over the course of 50 career games … He recorded a career-high four assists as a freshman. 

LOOKING TO CONTINUE THE HOT START:  Utica College senior forward Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) has netted six goals in three games … Ruffing has already been named ECAC Upstate Player of the Week, the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and the College's Male Athlete of the Week … Ruffing is off to one of the hottest starts in program-history and is currently tied for his career-best of six goals in a single season …  Ruffing's 38 career points (17 goals, four assists) ranks him fifth all-time at UC and his 17 career goals moved him up to third all-time.

SOLID DEFENSE: Senior goalie David Abdou (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), who was named the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week last week, has allowed two goals in three games while tallying 12 saves in the process.

FRESHMAN FIREPOWER: Freshman Bita Gazashvili (Tiblisi, Georgia/) is off to a quick start and he currently ranks second on the team with one goal and two assists in his first two collegiate games … His goal against Purchase during opening weekend proved to be the game-winner. 

LAST TIME AGAINST WELLS: (10/15/13) – Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) netted two goals in a 3-0 victory over the Express at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium … The victory gave the Pioneers their fourth win in six games … Utica outshot the Express 22-3 and senior goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) stopped one shot for the Pioneers.

SCOUTING THE EXPRESS: Wells College is 1-2-1 this season … The Express are looking to snap a two-game losing streak after losing to Medaille 2-1 on Sept. 2 and getting shut out by Alfred State 2-0 on Saturday … Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Sciotti has 18 saves on the season, while giving up 1.18 goals per game … Sophomore forward Hunter Sowersby has been the most productive offensive player for the Express so far, as he leads the team with five points (two goals, one assist).
 
BACK IN ACTION: After Tuesday's game, the Pioneers will return home to host Oswego State on Saturday, Sept. 13. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
