Women's Hockey Takes on Potsdam in Home-and-Home This Weekend

Utica, NY (1/22/15)- The Utica College women's hockey team is set for a big ECAC West Conference weekend as it takes on SUNY Potsdam in a home-and-home series.  The teams will face off at the Aud Friday night at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the series Saturday afternoon in Potsdam (4 p.m.).

LAST TIME OUT: Utica is coming off a 2-2 tie to Oswego on Tuesday… Senior Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks) scored just 55 seconds into the game, while sophomore Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) netted her third of the year to tie the game in the third period… Allison Buch (Alexandria, VA/Reston Raiders) tallied an assist on the day and Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) made 16 saves.
 
LEAGUE PLAY: The Pioneers are currently sixth in the ECAC West Conference standings with a 3-2-2 record… Utica is just one point behind Potsdam so this weekend's match up can have a big effect on the league standings… UC has 12 games remaining in the regular season, including 11 conference contests.
 
LIGHTING THE LAMP: 12 different players have netted at least one goal for the Pioneers so far this season… Junior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) leads the team in goals (ten), assists (seven), and points (17)… Senior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) is second on the squad with six goals and ten points… Four players have three goals on the year, including Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks), Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire), Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers), and Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton)
 
IN THE CREASE: Senior Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) and sophomore Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) have split time in net recently… McNamara has a .910 save percentage and 1.94 goals against average in her last two starts, while Goin has compiled a .905 save percentage and 2.31 goals against average in nine starts this season.
 
SCOUTING POTSDAM: The Bears are 6-8-1 overall and sit one point ahead of the Pioneers with a 4-6-1 record in the conference… Potsdam swept Cortland last weekend, winning by scores of 3-1 and 2-1… The Bears are led by reigning ECAC West Rookie of the Year, Jordan Ott, who has seven goals and six assists on the season… Utica is 7-1-4 against the Bears in the last five years… Last year, Utica won and tied the regular season meeting between the two teams and then downed the Bears 4-1 in the first round of the conference playoffs… Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) had three goals and one assist to lead Utica to the ECAC West semifinal. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Next weekend, the Pioneers travel to Aston, PA to take on Neumann University on Friday and Saturday… Game times are 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
