Utica, NY (1/24/15)- The Utica College women's basketball team dropped a nail biter Saturday afternoon as it fell to Empire 8 frontrunner Stevens Institute of Technology 64-55 at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center.

Utica drops to 9-10 overall and the Pioneers now sit in fourth place in the E8 standings with a 5-5 record. Stevens maintains the top spot in the Empire 8 with an 8-1 mark in the conference and a 14-2 overall record.Â

Freshman
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) lead Utica with 11 points, while junior
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) netted ten points and added a game-high four assists. Senior
Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) and freshman
Amanda Henderson (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) each netted nine points on the afternoon.Â

Utica shot just 34 percent from the floor and scored just four points off rebounds. The Stevens bench had an impressive showing, outscoring Utica's reserves 36-14.Â

The Pioneers have a big road trip next weekend as they take on Ithaca College and St. John Fisher, which are directly in front of them in the conference standings. UC takes on Ithaca Friday night (6 p.m.) before facing Fisher Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.Â
