UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team gets set to host Empire 8 Conference opponent Nazareth College to kick off the College's 2015 Homecoming weekend. The game is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT UC dropped a pair of games over the weekend… On Saturday UC was defeated 3-1 against Empire 8 opponent Elmira College…On Sunday the Pioneers were shut out 4-0 against local rival Hamilton College.
HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES: Friday's game is part of an action packed 2015 Utica College Homecoming weekend… The UC football team will face E8 rival Ithaca College Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. followed by the men's soccer game against Elmira ( 7p.m.)… The women's tennis team will face St. John Fisher College on Saturday and Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday… Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
FRESHMEN LEADING THE WAY: Utica College's scoring attack is led by freshmen who account for seven of the team's 12 goals… Leading the team is
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) who has eight points off of four goals… Right behind Mazza and second on the team is
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) who has four points off of two goals… Freshman
Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) is fifth on the team with three points (one goal, one assist).
IN THE NET: In the goal for the Pioneers is junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia)… Enders has collected one shutout and 42 saves in eight starts this season… She currently has a .750 save percentage.
SCOUTING NAZARETH: The Golden Flyers are currently 6-1-2 with a 0-0-1 Empire 8 record… Nazareth is coming off of a 1-0 overtime win over Rochester at home… The Golden Flyers are led by senior Briana Vibbard, (three goals, one assist) and freshman Jessica Byrnes (two goals, three assists) who each have seven points, and junior goalie Allison Dobles (five goals against, 53 saves, .914 save percentage).
AGAINST THE GOLDEN FLYERS: UC is 0-5 against Naz in the last five years … The last time Utica beat Nazareth was a 2-0 regular season victory back in 2006.
LOOKING AHEAD: Utica will host Clarkson University on Tuesday night at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium… The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
