Women's Soccer Scores Four Unanswered to Top Alfred

ALFRED, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team picked up its first Empire 8 Conference win of the season as it downed host Alfred University 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.  The Pioneers scored four unanswered goals in the win.

UC improves to 3-8-2 on the year and 1-3 in Empire 8 play.  The Pioneers wrap up their weekend series Sunday as they travel to St. John Fisher College.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Utica fell down 1-0 in the first half, as Alfred's Rachel Uhrich put in a mishandled ball for her first goal of the season.  The Pioneers rebounded in the second frame to score four straight goals and snap their six-game losing streak.

Sophomore Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) opened the Utica scoring in the 48th minute as she finished a cross from Ciara McIlvenney (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) for her third goal of the year.  McIlvenney scored a goal of her own in the 67th minute, unassisted for her third of the year and second in as many games.

Senior Cassandra McNitt (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added an insurance tally in the 76th minute as she put in a throw in from Elanna Green (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) for her first career goal.  Freshman Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) capped off the scoring in the final ten minutes as she connected with classmate Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) for her third of the year.

Junior Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) made two saves in the win, while her counterpart, Sammy Jo Shanahan had ten saves in the loss.
