UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team was downed 8-1Saturday to visiting Empire 8 rival Alfred University at the Utica College Tennis Courts.
Lu Lu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) and
Anastasia Fitzpatrick (Parksville, NY/Liberty) led the way for the Pioneers as the duo teamed up for a 9-7 win in doubles play.
Zhang battled in her singles match however lost in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 10-4). Utica was shut out in its other two doubles match but was able to muster two games in singles play.
UC falls to 0-10 overall on the season and remains winless in league play with a 0-6 mark. The Pioneers are right back on the courts Sunday as they wrap up a five match homestand against Nazareth College. The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the UC Courts.
Alfred moves its overall record to 4-9 including a 2-5 mark in conference action and remain on the road as its heads to Elmira on Sunday to face the Soaring Eagles (1 p.m.).
