#22 Skidmore Slips Past Utica in Double OT

Utica, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team took nationally-ranked No. 22 Skidmore College to double overtime, but the visiting Thoroughbreds connected on the game-winner 4:44 into the second OT to earn the non-conference victory at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium on Tuesday night.  Ben Chaples found a streaking Augustine Okoye off a throw in, and Okoye slipped the game-winner past UC goalie Matthew Miligrano to hand the visitors their sixth consecutive victory.

Utica's Matt Beljan (Bedminster, PA/Christopher Dock) knotted the score at 1-1 in the 68th minute of action when he headed home his first goal of the season and the second of his career.  Joseph Hunter (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) sent the free kick into the box for UC where it was kept alive by the head of Peyton LeReaux.  Sophomore Ricky Drake (Clifton Park, NY/Catholic Central) then headed the ball back towards the goal where Beljan was waiting to head in the equalizer.  The assist for Drake was the second of his young career.

Kevin Santos got Skidmore on the board with his fifth goal of the season in the 55th minute of the contest to give the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 lead early in the second half.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first half of play as Skidmore entered the intermission with an 11-4 shot advantage.

Skidmore outshot Utica 28-11 on the day but the Pioneers earned a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Utica goalie Matthew Miligrano stopped six shots on the afternoon, while Eli Kisselbach made three saves in net for Skidmore.

The Pioneers (4-10) return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Alfred University for an Empire 8 Conference match up at 1 p.m.
