Volleyball Drops Pair at Houghton Tournament

HOUGHTON, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference games Friday afternoon at the Houghton Tournament.  UC lost 3-0 to both SUNY Canton and Alfred State.
 
Utica 0, SUNY Canton 3- Game One Final
Canton completed the season sweep of the Pioneers as it topped Utica 3-0 for the third time this season.  Junior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the charge for UC as she collected eight kills, while Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) combined for 13 kills.  Blaszak also led the Pioneers with two blocks. 
 
Senior Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) tallied 21 assists to aid the offense and added 11 digs on the defensive end, while Voss compiled a team-best 19 digs.  Senior Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) also added ten digs in the outing. 
 
Utica 0, Alfred State 3- Game Two Final
This time it was freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) who led the offense as she totaled seven kills to extend her team-leading kill total to 263 on the season.  Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) each had five kills, while Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) totaled 18 assists. 
 
Senior Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) led the defensive unit with 12 digs, followed by Voss (11) Allen (10), and Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville), who added nine digs of her own.  Blaszak and freshman Taniell Davis tied for the team-lead with two blocks on the evening.
 
Utica (6-27) wraps up its season Saturday as it faces Houghton College and Oberlin College.  The first game is scheduled for 11 a.m. while the contest against Oberlin will be at 1 p.m.
