UTICA, NY- Clarkson University erased a one-goal deficit and scored two unanswered tallies as it downed the Utica College women's soccer team in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Junior
Ciara McIlvenney (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) netted her second goal of the season in the 16th minute to put the Pioneers on top 1-0. McIlvenney ran in alone and slid the ball under a diving Clarkson keeper for the tally.
The Golden Knights netted the equalizer just five minutes later as Summer Gillespie found the back of the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the year. Gillespie fired a long shot from the right corner of the box that snuck inside the far left post to even the score.
Clarkson added another tally just before the end of the half as Courtney Black played a ball off her body and into the goal off a corner from Tori Sailor.
Neither team was able to score in the second half as Clarkson was able to hold on for its seventh win of the season. Junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) and sophomore
Kimberly Beattie (Levitton, NY/Division Ave) combined for ten saves in the loss, while Anna Demasi made three saves in net for the Golden Knights.
The Pioneers (2-8-2) return to action this weekend as they hit the road for a two-game set. UC will face Alfred University Saturday at 12 p.m. before taking on St. John Fisher College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
