MARCY, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team fell to host SUNY Polytechnic 72-65 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the way for UC with 16 points on the day.
Utica drops to 2-2 on the year, while the Wildcats improve to 1-0 with their season-opening win. The Pioneers will have over a week off, before returning to action on Monday, Nov. 30 to take on local rival, Hamilton College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hamilton.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first 3:42 of the contest and went on to take a 22-13 lead after the first quarter. Utica outscored SUNY Poly by seven in the third quarter to come within five, 51-46, but the Wildcats were able to stave off Utica's comeback hopes and pick up the win.
Senior
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) totaled 14 points, including two three-pointers, and added five rebounds to help lead the way. Junior
Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) had a team-high nine boards, while freshman
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had eight rebounds, including seven on the defensive end. The pair also combined for 14 points.
Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk),
Amanda Henderson (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea), and
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) also contributed points, with Henderson adding a team-high two steals. Babb was Utica's best free throw shooter as she made all four shots from the line.
