Miceli Joins 1,000 Point Club in Tight Contest at Hamilton

UTICA, NY – Senior guard Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) netted a game-high 28 points and became the 11th player in program-history to record over 1,000 career points as the Utica College women's basketball team dropped a highly contested two point decision, 67-65, against local rival Hamilton College on the road Monday night.

The Pioneers (2-3) caught fire in the third quarter, netting five of their seven second half 3-pointers, and outscored the Continentals 27-16 in the ten minute stretch to take a 54-49 lead into the fourth.

Hamilton (2-2) used a 15-5 run midway through the fourth quarter of play to take a 66-62 lead that it would not relinquish.  The Pioneers had two chances trailing by two points in the final 21 seconds, but their first possession resulted in an offensive foul and their second ended the game as Miceli's long distance shot to win was off the mark as the final horn sounded.

The Pioneers connected on a season-best 11 3-pointers in the contest, including seven from Miceli and two from Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop).  Babb finished the afternoon with ten points, six rebounds and four assists.

Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) added eight points, six rebounds and four steals, while Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) netted four points, grabbed four rebounds and posted three steals.

Lauren Getman (18), Sam Graber (15) and Carly Gruenberg (13) accounted for 46 of Hamilton's 67 points on the afternoon. Getman also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Mass. for a non-conference contest at 7 p.m.

UC returns home Saturday when the Pioneers host their Alumni Game at 11 a.m. prior to a 2 p.m. tilt against Bard College.  Saturday's game is the Pioneers' fourth annual "Game For Brooks Miles" where they will raise awareness and money for childhood cancer.

Brooks Miles Rorick, son of Greg Rorick '98 and Angela Rorick, passed away from heart complications shortly after he was born on April 1, 2008.  Greg, a local podiatrist and Utica College Alum, and his wife Angela are cousins of UC Women's Basketball Head Coach Michele Davis. Coach Davis is the godmother to Brooks' brother, Cooper Rorick.
