CORTLAND, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team picked up two points in the ECAC West Conference standings as it topped host SUNY Cortland 3-0 in league play Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick start as freshman
Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville) scored just 23 seconds into the game to give UC the 1-0 lead. Junior
Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) and senior
Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) assisted on Patterson's fourth of the year.Â

Schnepp padded the lead at 7:41 of the second period as she netted a shorthanded tally to give Utica a two-goal cushion. Haasbeek and classmate
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) assisted on the play. Reed capped off the scoring ten minutes later as she found the back of the net for her team-leading 12 goal of the season. Patterson and Schnepp added assists on the play.

The Utica defense, led by junior
Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) shut the door as Goin made 17 saves for her second straight shutout. The Pioneers also held the Red Dragons scoreless on three power play chances. Cortland's Deanna Meunier stopped 33 shots in the loss.Â

Utica improves to 7-2-1 on the year and 4-2-1 in ECAC West play, while the Red Dragons falls to 1-5-1 (0-4-1 ECAC West). The teams wrap up the season series Sunday in Utica. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.Â
