Baseball Falls to Local Rival Hamilton

UTICA, NY – The Utica College baseball team lost 6-1 Tuesday against local rival Hamilton College at the UC Baseball Field.

The Pioneers fall to 17-13 overall and need just four more wins to tie the most victories in a season in over 24 years.  The 1991 Pioneers went 21-8 under Head Coach Don Guido.

UC returns to action Wednesday as it welcomes Keuka College to the UC Baseball Field for an afternoon twin bill.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Hamilton moves its overall record to 14-10 on the season and returns to the diamond Friday as it travels to Middletown, CT to face Wesleyan.

The Continentals worked a 2-0 lead over the first two innings of play on a combined three hits and one UC error. Hamilton's leadoff Joe Jensen singled to start the game then stole second and third before scoring on a sac fly. In the second, Chris Collins led off with a double and scored on an errant throw by Utica's catcher as Collin attempted to steal third.

HC added another run in the fifth moving to a 3-0 lead before the Pioneers got on the board.

UC posted its first and only run of the contest in the seventh as Bryce Patterson (Corning, NY/Corning East) scored on an error by Hamilton's shortstop.

The visitors put up three more scores in the top of the ninth as they took a 6-1 lead and the eventual victory.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday May 6th in Clinton, NY for the 28th Annual Jackie Robinson Game at the Royce Field.  First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
