TROY, NY- The Utica College field hockey team allowed three goals in the second half as it fell to host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 3-1 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. This marks the first time the Engineers have beaten Utica in the last four years.
The Pioneers (1-3) look to rebound Sunday as they return home to face nationally ranked No. 20 University of Rochester. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, RPI's Colleen Fowler broke the deadlock with her strike off a penalty corner at 36:24. The Pioneers evened the score at 44:02 as senior
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) netted her first of the year off a scramble in front. Dowling now leads the team with four points on the season.
RPI regained control just four minutes later as Megan Jones tipped in a pass off a penalty corner for her fourth game-winner of the year and sophomore Jena Nawfel added an insurance tally with just over five minutes remaining to secure the victory. In the final 15 minutes, Utica threatened but was not able to find the back of the net as the Engineers went on to win their third straight home game and improve to 4-1 overall.

Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made seven saves in the loss, while Rachel Kaufman stopped four shots in the win.
