UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team is set to host its home-opener Monday afternoon against Oswego State at the Utica College tennis courts ... The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

SEASON-OPENER:  Utica dropped its season-opener, 9-0, to Empire 8 rival Ithaca College last Saturday on the road …  Utica managed to win eight games against the Bombers, scoring points in first singles (2-6, 0-6) by Rose Zaloom (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor), fourth singles (1-6, 0-6) by Gabriella Morreale (Utica, NY/T.R Proctor), fifth singles (1-6, 2-6) by Lu Lu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers), and sixth singles (1-6, 0-6) by Angelee Smith (Johnstown/Johnstown ), as well as the second doubles (1-8) pair of Morreale and Anastasia Fitzpatrick (Parksville, NY/Liberty).

LAKER REPORT:  Oswego is currently 1-3 overall on the season and recently lost to Daemen College this past Saturday… The Lakers lost 8-1 at the Romney Indoor Tennis Courts in Oswego, NY … The Lakers lone point came in a hard fought battle at sixth singles, as Giovanna Saulle extended the match to its full potential … The sophomore took the first set 7-5 before dropping the second 2-6. In the 10-point tie break, Saulle was able to edge her opponent 10-7 ... In doubles, the team was almost able to grab another point as Jill Travis and Leslie Usherwood pushed their second doubles match to extra games, but was unable to steal the victory falling 7-9.

NEXT UP: Following Monday's match versus the Lakers, the Pioneers remain home as they welcome Plattsburgh to the UC Tennis Courts on Friday … The competitor is set to begin at p.m.
