UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team returns home Wednesday night as it hosts cross-town rival, SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. under the lights at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT: Utica is coming off a 0-1-1 weekend at the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, hosted by Hartwick College… UC fell to Johnson & Wales College 4-1 on Saturday, before fighting back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a tie against Elms College on Sunday… Sophomore
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) and freshmen
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) and
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) each scored one goal for the Pioneers… Junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) totaled 10 saves in 200 minutes of work in net.
FRESHMEN FITTING IN: First year players
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield),
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley), and
Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) have all made an immediate impact on the pitch… Reilly and Mazza are tied with a team-best four points (two goals), while Esposito is right behind with three points (one goal, one assist).
BERKOWITZ BACK AT IT: Sophomore
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) is tied for the team-lead with four points… She has already matched her goal-scoring output of a year ago, in just three games this season... She currently leads the Empire 8 with .667 goals per game.
SHUTTING THE DOOR: Junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) has racked up a 1.66 goals against average to go along with her .750 save percentage… She is fourth in the conference with 5.25 saves per game and currently ranks sixth on the College's career saves list with 159… Enders and sophomore
Kimberly Beattie (Levitton, NY/Division Ave) had a shutout streak that lasted 229:30, before Johnson & Wales was able to find the back of the net last weekend.
SCOUTING SUNY POLY: The Wildcats are currently 1-1 on the season… They defeated Medaille College 3-0, before falling to Hilbert 2-1… Utica defeated the same opponents by a combined score of 7-0 in the opening weekend of play… Four players have scored one goal so far this year.
AGAINST THE WILDCATS: Utica holds a 19-1 advantage over SUNY Poly in the last 20 meetings... Last year, UC came away with a 2-1 win at SUNY Poly behind a goal from
Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) and one assist each by
Sara Kubera (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) and
