Women's Soccer Set For Empire 8 Opener at Home Tuesday

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team will be back at home Tuesday for its Empire 8 Conference opener against Hartwick College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are looking to get on the winning track, as they are 0-2-2 in their last four outings ... UC lost 3-0 in its last game against SUNY Potsdam, and recorded ties the two games before that, one being against crosstown rival SUNY Poly.
 
MAZZA LEADING THE WAY: Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) is having a breakout freshman season for the Pioneers as she has three goals in seven games so far this season … Mazza's three goals are good enough for first in the Empire 8 Conference … She is also third in the conference in goals per game.
 
SCORING AT A HIGH RATE: The Pioneers are ranked fourth in the Empire 8 Conference in goals, as they have scored 11 goals in their first seven games ... UC has had seven different players score for them this season … Mazza has led the way with three goals, followed by Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) and Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's), who have two goals apiece … Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham), Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen), Ciara McIlvenney (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington), and Sara Kubera (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) have also had one goal each for the Pioneers this season.

RECENT MEETINGS AGAINST HARTWICK: Utica is 5-5-2 against Hartwick dating back to 2003 … The last time UC beat Hartwick was on September 21, 2011, by the score of 4-3 … UC won four out of five meetings against the Hawks from 2003-2007. 

SCOUTING HARTWICK: The Hawks are off to a great start with a 6-1 record … Hartwick has three players with six points on the season … Allyson Daniels and Madison Miller have three goals each for the Hawks, while Allie Ricci has six assists.

LOOKING FORWARD: The Pioneers will have two games this weekend … The first game will be on the road Saturday at 12 p.m. against Elmira College … UC will then travel back home for a Sunday afternoon game against Hamilton College … Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
