SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The Utica College field hockey team suffered a humbling 8-0 defeat at the hands of nationally ranked No. 11 Skidmore College Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Pioneers (3-7, 2-1 Empire 8) look to rebound Saturday as they travel to Empire 8 Conference rival, St. John Fisher College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Thoroughbreds used four goals in each half to improve to 5-0 on the year. Senior All-American Dani DeGregory led the way for Skidmore as she totaled eight points, while freshman Gabby Hyman netted a hat trick.
Senior
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) and sophomore
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) combined for 21 saves in net, while their counterpart, Elizabeth Coughlin made five stops in the shutout. Casey remains at the top of the Empire 8 leaderboard as she has collected 82 saves on the season, 20 more than the next person.
Freshman
Jessica Belt (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) led the way for Utica with two shots on goal, while classmates
Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton),
Tiffany Evans (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), and junior
Meghan McCormick (Ava, NY/RFA) each fired one shot on target.
