UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team looks to bounce back this weekend as it travels across town for the SUNY Poly Tournament. UC will take on Hilbert College Friday evening at 7 p.m. before facing Medaille College Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.).
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 1-0 season-opening loss to Brockport on Tuesday… Junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) finished with ten saves for Utica, while freshman
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) had a team-high two shots on goal.
FRESHMEN FITTING IN: Four freshmen made their collegiate debuts in Tuesday's game…
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) was a threat on the offensive end as she had two breakaway opportunities, but was unable to find the back of the net…
Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) and
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) each chipped in on the attack with one shot apiece and
Samantha Marko (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) also earned playing time on the defensive end.
ROCK IN NET: Junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) stopped ten of the 11 shots she faced in Tuesday's loss to Brockport… It marks the sixth time in her career she has made ten or more saves in a single game.
SCOUTING HILBERT: The Hawks wrapped up their 2014 campaign with an overall record of 4-11-1… Hilbert went 1-1 at the SUNY Poly Tournament last season, defeating Sage 1-0 before falling 2-0 to the Albany College of Pharmacy… Hilbert returns its two leading scorers from last season in Jennifer Colvin and Imarie Waller, who each tallied three goals on the year… This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
SCOUTING MEDAILLE: The Mavericks went 7-10 in 2014 and lost in the opening round of the AMCC Conference Tournament… Medaille returns senior Candis Kapuscinski, who netted seven goals and two assists in 15 games last season… This will be the first match up between Utica and Medaille.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Oneonta, NY for the Hartwick Tournament… UC will open up play Saturday against Johnson & Wales University (1 p.m.).
