CORTLAND, NY- The Utica College volleyball team fell in a pair of matches Friday during its season opener at the SUNY Cortland Tournament. Utica lost to Wells 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to the University of Rochester in the night cap.

Junior
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the way for the Pioneers in the opening game as she totaled a team-best eight kills. Senior
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) recorded a game-high ten digs to go along with her ten assists.
Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) had seven digs, while sophomore
Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) chipped in with five kills and three digs of her own.
Utica 1, U of R 3- Game Two Final
The Pioneers showed improvement in the second match as they took the Yellow Jackets to a fourth set. Freshman
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) shined for Utica as she totaled 13 kills and added nine digs.
Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) led UC with 22 digs, while
Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) and
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) each had seven digs.
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) chipped in with nine kills, and
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) added five.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they face Buffalo State and SUNY Cortland. The first game begins at 1:30 p.m.
