Women's Soccer Cruises to Victory over Medaille

UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team extended its win streak to two as it downed Medaille College 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Poly Tournament.  Utica extends its shutout streak to 224:16 and has only allowed one goal in its first three games.

Five different players scored for UC as the Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the season.  They return to action Saturday as they take on Johnson & Wales at the Hartwick Tournament.

Utica took just a 1-0 lead into halftime as junior Sara Kubera (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) netted her first career goal in the 12th minute.  The flood gates opened in the second half as the Pioneers received scores from Ciara McIlvenney (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington), Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley), Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield), and Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's).  Mazza and Reilly's tallies were also their first collegiate goals.  Freshman Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) tallied her third point in two days as she assisted on Berkowitz's tally.

The Pioneers outshot the Mavericks 18-1 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.  Junior Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) had one save to earn her second career shutout.
