UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team extended its win streak to two as it downed Medaille College 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Poly Tournament. Utica extends its shutout streak to 224:16 and has only allowed one goal in its first three games.
Five different players scored for UC as the Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the season. They return to action Saturday as they take on Johnson & Wales at the Hartwick Tournament.
Utica took just a 1-0 lead into halftime as junior
Sara Kubera (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) netted her first career goal in the 12
th minute. The flood gates opened in the second half as the Pioneers received scores from
Ciara McIlvenney (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington),
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley),
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield), and
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's). Mazza and Reilly's tallies were also their first collegiate goals. Freshman
Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) tallied her third point in two days as she assisted on Berkowitz's tally.
The Pioneers outshot the Mavericks 18-1 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) had one save to earn her second career shutout.
