UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team hosts Empire 8 Conference opponents Ithaca College on Friday and Nazareth on Saturday. On Friday the game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. while on Saturday the game will start at 4 p.m.
Last Time Out: UC was supposed to take on St. John Fisher on the road in an Empire 8 match up but the game was postponed due to weather … The game has been rescheduled to take place on February 1, at 8 p.m.
Leading The Way: Senior
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and sophomore
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) lead the team with 15.1 and 11.0 points per game, respectively … Miceli is fifth in the E8 in points per game, second in 3-pointers per game (2.1), and fifth in steals per game (1.9) … Babb is second in the Empire 8 in steals per game (2.2) and leads the team with 31 steals.
Moving On Up: Over the weekend, Miceli moved into eighth place on the College's career points list, passing Ava Thomas '07, who finished her career with 1,112 points... Miceli now has 1,128 points in 87 career games… She is also second all-time with 152 career 3-pointers.
Helping Out: Utica has six players that are averaging five or more points per game…
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) is third on the team with 7.9 points per game followed by
Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) who has 7.2 points per game …
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) is fifth on the team with 6.9 points per game while
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) is sixth on the team with 5.6 points per game … Carty and Tripp lead the team with 82 and 76 rebounds, respectively.
Scouting Ithaca: The Bombers are 8-7 overall with a 4-2 conference record … Ithaca recently defeated Baruch, 75-54 … The Bombers are led by Jordan Beers (12.2 points per game, 56 rebounds, 36 assists, 17 steals, and five blocks) and Ali Ricchiuti (11.1 points per game, 78 rebounds, 38 assists, 14 steals, and six blocks) … UC last beat Ithaca 38-37 in the Empire 8 championship game in the 2009-2010 season.
Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers are 11-4 overall with a 4-2 Empire 8 record … Nazareth recently defeated E8 opponent Hartwick, 87-74 … The Golden Flyers are led by Lindsey Kelly (18.5 points per game, 147 rebounds, 30 assists, 19 steals, and 10 blocks) and Sam Sorge (15.9 points per game, 71 rebounds, 43 assists, 14 steals, and three blocks).
