ALFRED, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team picked up a win in its Empire 8 Conference opener as it downed host Alfred University, 80-50, Tuesday evening. Senior
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) led all players with 27 points.

The Pioneers, winners of four straight, figured out their road woes as they picked up their first road win of the season. Utica improves to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the E8. UC remains on the road on Thursday as it travels to conference foe, Stevens Institute of Technology. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Utica did not trail after the 1:16 mark of the first quarter. Miceli was 11-for-18 from the floor and had two three-pointers to move into second on the College's career three-pointers list. She also collected a team-high four steals. Junior
Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) totaled 10 points and matched Miceli with a team-best nine rebounds.Â

Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) and sophomore
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) combined for 17 points and nine boards, while freshman
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) totaled eight points and added six rebounds.Â
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet),
Maggie Tabone (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili),
Kelcei Edmonds (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy),
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop), and
Emily Pinckney (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) also scored to pace the Pioneers. The UC bench outscored Alfred's reserves 22-6 and totaled 52 points in the paint.Â
