Utica, NY – Utica College women's tennis (3-9 overall, 1-7 conference) will have its last contest of the season this Saturday. The Pioneers will host The Sage Colleges (5-5 overall, 3-3 conference) as the competition is set to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: In the Pioneers last contest they suffered an 8-1 loss on the road to Alfred University. Lulu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) was able to score the lone point for Utica as she won the fourth singles match 3-6, 6-1, 10-3. Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) put up a good fight in the sixth singles match but eventually lost 6-0, 6-7, 10-5. This marked the team's final Empire 8 match of the season.
 
Zhang is Rolling: With an individual match record of 8-3 in singles competition Lulu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) has been on fire. After winning the singles match in the team's last contest at Alfred she has now won three in a row. Out of her last eight singles appearances she has won seven of those matchups. Look for her to try and extend her winning streak this weekend in the team's contest against The Sage Colleges.
 
Scouting Sage: Heading into the matchup with Utica College, Sage currently has a two-match win streak. They earned wins against Castleton University and Mt. St. Mary College, both by a score of 6-3. Shanessa Mendoza, Melissa Estremera, and Shanice Mendoza all posted a win in both singles and doubles competition against Mt. St. Mary College.
 
Against Sage: In the last two years Utica has been unable to defeat Sage. Both matchups have resulted in 8-1 defeats for the Pioneers. Last year Lulu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) was able to score the one point for Utica during singles competition. With a tough matchup to close out the season the Pioneers will work to end the season on a good note.
