Volleyball Drops Pair at RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on the first day of the RIT Invitational on Friday afternoon.  UC fell to the host RIT Tigers in the opening game, before losing to Trine University in the night cap. 
 
 Utica 0, RIT 3- Game One Final
The Tigers controlled play from the opening serve as they took the first set 25-8.  RIT carried its momentum into the final two sets, coming away with 25-13 and 25-12 wins to take the match 3-0.  Freshman Paige Klock (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) led the Pioneers with four kills on the outing.  Sophomore Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and freshman Lindsey Hannel (Victor, NY/Victor) chipped in with three kills each. 
 
Junior Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) led the defense with 10 digs, while Herringshaw had a team-best two blocks.  Sophomore Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) tallied a team-high nine assists and three service aces in the loss. 
 
Utica 0, Trine 3- Game Two Final
Utica and Trine traded points to start the first frame.  The Pioneers trailed just four points midway through the set, before Trine went on to score six straight points to take the first set 25-16. The Thunder took sets two and three by scores of 25-10 and 25-18 to come away with the three-set victory.
 
Sophomore Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the way for Utica in game two with eight kills, while freshman Lindsey Hannel (Victor, NY/Victor) had four kills.  Voss and freshman Megan Weiss (Windsor, CT/Northwest Catholic) tied for the team-lead with eight assists each, while junior Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) and sophomore Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) tallied 10 and eight digs, respectively. 
 
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they face Brockport (12 p.m.) and St. John Fisher (2 p.m.)
