Volleyball Falls at Houghton Tournament

UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped both games on the opening day of the Houghton Tournament Friday evening as it fell to SUNY Cortland and Marywood University by the score of 3-0 each game. 
 
Utica 0, SUNY Cortland 3- Game One final
Utica kept it close in the first two sets, falling 25-17 and 25-20, before SUNY Cortland was able to pull away in the third set, 25-9 to take the match.
 
Sophomore Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the way for UC with eight kills, while freshman Paige Klock (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) and sophomore Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) combined for nine kills on the afternoon.  Voss also recorded a team-high 14 assists, while Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) had 11 digs. 
 
Utica 0, Marywood 3- Game Two Final
Marywood had the advantage in all statistical categories, including a 13-2 edge in service aces.  Junior Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) and sophomore Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with five kills each on the evening.  Once again Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the squad in assists (10), while Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) picked up a team-best 10 digs. 
 
Herringshaw has set new career marks in kills (183) and blocks (73) this season, while Voss has totaled a career-high 372 assists. 
 
UC will return to action Saturday for its final two games of the season.  The Pioneers face Hiram College at 11 a.m. followed by Keuka College at 1 p.m.
