Women's Soccer Defeats SUNY Canton 5-0

Utica, NY – Women's soccer was able to get the win over SUNY Canton as they cruised to a 5-0 victory.

The Pioneers were able to take an early lead as Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) headed in her third goal of the season coming off the assist from Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) on a corner kick. Five minutes after the team's first goal Ciara McIlvenny (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) was able to put in the team's second goal of the game. Utica went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Ciara McIlvenny (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) picked up right where she left off in the first half by netting two more goals in the second earning her first career hat trick. Early into the second half she scored off of an assist from Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's). Just one minute later she was able to complete the hat trick on an unassisted goal, giving the Pioneers a 4-0 lead. Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) was able to put the finishing touch on the game as she scored her first goal of the season with the assist from Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) sealing the 5-0 victory.

Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) finished the game with one goal and two assists to help the team come away with the win. Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) was also vital to the win scoring her first goal of the season and added one assist. Goalkeepers Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) and Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) were able to collectively complete the shutout and totaled four combined saves.

The Pioneers are back in action next week as they travel to face Empire 8 opponent Stevens Institute of Technology on October 15th at 4 p.m.
