Alfred, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision against host Alfred University in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon.  Utica's Lulu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) won the lone match for the Pioneers as she topped Inda Gillett by set scores of 3-5, 6-1, 10-3 in fourth singles. Zhang improved her overall record to 8-3 in singles competition and won her third straight match. Zhang has now won seven of her last eight singles matches this season.

The Pioneers close out their 2016 Fall schedule on October 15^th when they play host to The Sage Colleges at 1 p.m. Utica's record moved to 3-9 overall and the Pioneers capped Empire 8 Conference play with a 1-7 record.

Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) fought hard in sixth singles but lost by set scores of 6-0, 6-7, 10-5 to Alfred's Courtney Ferrara. Lulu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) and Gabriella Morreale (Utica, NY/T.R Proctor) lost in second doubles 8-3 to Alfred's Sarah Grace and Inda Gillett.

Alfred's record improved to 5-10 overall on the year and 3-5 in Empire 8 Conference action.
