Women's Basketball Set for Home Opener

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team will play its home opener of the 2016-17 season on November 17th. The Pioneers will host Oneonta with a start time of 6 p.m.

Last Time Out: In the last contest for the Pioneers, they defeated SUNY Potsdam by a score of 67-52... It was the first game of the season for Utica making their current record, 1-0... Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the way as she scored a team high of 18 points in the game... Babb also tallied seven rebounds, a team high five assists and a team high four steals... Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) recorded her first double-double of the season as she scored 15 points and hauled in a team high of 11 rebounds... Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) also played well as she added 15 points of her own on the day... The Pioneers were able to outscore Potsdam 30-4 in the third quarter.
 
Oneonta Matchup: This will be the first game of the 2016-17 season for Oneonta... Last year Oneonta finished with a record of 17-10 and lost in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Conference Tournament... The Pioneers have lost six straight meetings with Oneonta and last defeated them in the 2009-10 season, 58-56... In last year's contest, Utica lost by a score of 65-52... Graduate Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) led the team with 16 points in the game and added six rebounds... Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) contributed with 14 points and six rebounds while Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) recorded 11 points and a team high of seven rebounds... Oneonta graduate Lyteshia Price was the high scorer in last year's game as she earned 31 points and added 10 rebounds... With the Pioneers returning multiple key players this season they will seek revenge after last year's loss.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be at home once again for their next contest, as they will host SUNY Poly on November 20th... It will be the first game of the season for SUNY Poly who was voted #1 in the preseason poll rankings for the NEAC... The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
