Women's Hockey Travels to Chatham for ECAC West Series

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team looks to continue its momentum this weekend as the Pioneers travel to Chatham for their final road trip of the regular season.  The teams will face off Friday at 5 p.m. with the series wrapping up Saturday at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a sweep of visiting Neumann University in ECAC West Conference play last weekend… UC downed Neumann 5-1 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday… Senior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) led the way with five points (two goals, three assists), while junior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) had four (one goal, three assists)… Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville), Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos), Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), and Victoria Pelton (Sterling Heights, MI/Belle Tire) also found the back of the net… Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 27 saves on Friday, while Amanda Lupo (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) stopped 24 shots on Saturday.

GOLD RIBBON GAME SUCCESS: Friday night's game against Neumann served as Utica's fourth annual Shawn Grady Memorial Fund Gold Ribbon Game for childhood cancer awareness… UC dawned special edition gold ribbon jerseys, which were auctioned off over the course of the last month to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer… The Pioneers raised a record $4,007 throughout the event and the funds will be donated to 15-year-old John Gallardo and his family from Rome, NY... John underwent a successful bone marrow transplant in the Spring of 2015 and is currently in remission from his aplastic anaemia diagnosis for which he currently requires treatment at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse… In the four-year history of the event, the Pioneers have now raised over $13,000 for the cause.

NATIONAL ATTENTION: For the second week in a row, the Pioneers are in the "receiving votes" category in both national polls… Utica grabbed nine votes in the D3hockey.com national rankings, just three behind tenth-ranked University of St. Thomas… Utica also received three votes in this week's USCHO.com online poll… UC (13-5-1, 9-2-1 ECAC West) has clinched a playoff spot and is currently just one point behind nationally ranked No. 3 Elmira College for second place in the conference standings.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Senior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) leads the team with a career-best 31 points… Her 16 goals and 15 assists this season are also new career-highs… Reed is currently tied for eighth nationally with 1.63 points per game… She needs two more points to become just the fourth player in program history to score 100 points in a career.

SCHNEPP KEEPING PACE: Junior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) leads the team and is tied for fourth nationally with 1.05 assists per game… Schnepp has compiled career highs this season in both assists (20) and points (29).

PATTERSON CONTINUES TO SHINE: Freshman Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville) is tied for second nationally in rookie scoring with 1.26 points per game… She is second on the squad with 16 assists and her 24 points rank third on the team… She is just the third UC player to score at least 20 points as a freshman in the last eight years.

SHUTTING THE DOOR: Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) ranks third nationally with a .958 save percentage and 1.06 goals against average… Her school-record six shutouts this season are also tied for second nationally and she has allowed one goal or fewer in 10 games… Sophomore Amanda Lupo (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) has also stepped up when called upon… Lupo boasts a .927 save percentage and 2.01 goals against average in three starts this year.

SCOUTING CHATHAM: The Cougars are 6-11-1 overall and 2-9-1 in the ECAC West… Chatham is coming off a pair of one-goal losses to SUNY Cortland last weekend… The Cougars are led by junior Erika Martin, who has nine points (four goals, five assists) and sophomore Syndey Isbell, who has compiled a .911 save percentage and 2.64 goals against average in 12 starts.

AGAINST THE COUGARS: UC is 10-0 against Chatham in the last five years… Last year, the Pioneers topped the Cougars 2-0 and 4-3... Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) scored two goals, including the game-winner with less than one second remaining in the Pioneers' 4-3 win… Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos), and Kelly Critzer (West Salem, OH/Ohio Flames) also scored on the weekend, while Victoria Pelton (Sterling Heights, MI/Belle Tire) had three assists.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will face a tough test next weekend as they return home to take on ECAC West frontrunner and nationally ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh State… Saturday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. while Sunday's contest will be at 3 p.m.
