Men's Lacrosse Travels to Take on SUNY Potsdam

UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's lacrosse team plays its third consecutive game on the road Saturday as it faces SUNY Potsdam in non-conference action. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: Utica fell 18-5 against crosstown opponent Hamilton in the annual "Contineer Cup" on Wednesday … The Continentals scored first and would not relinquish the lead outscoring the Pioneers 5-1 in the first quarter, 7-1 in the second quarter, 4-2 in the third quarter, and 2-1 in the fifth quarter.
 
Young Offense: Utica's top three point scorers are freshman Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and sophomores Nick Yelich (Lancaster, NY/Depew) and Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) … Castiglia leads the team with three points off of a team high three goals while Yelich has three points off of one goal and two assists … Desveaux has two points and is second on the team with two goals.
 
Helping Out: UC has eight players with at least one point so far this season … Seniors Liam Wheatley (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Alex Finnegan (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) each have two points this season … Wheatley has one goal and one assist while Finnegan has two assists … Junior Matthew Miller (Geneva, NY/Geneva) and freshman Xavier Perron (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Le Triolet) each have one point off of one goal while senior Patrick Mulligan (Commack, NY/Commack) has one point off of one assist.
 
In the Net: Senior Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) has started the last two games and leads the team with 25 saves … DiOrio is 14th in the Conference in save percentage (.472) and third in the conference in saves per game (12.50) … Junior Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown) played the final quarter against Hamilton and had three saves and two goals against … Smith is seventh in the Empire 8 in goals against average (8.00), eighth in the conference in save percentage (.600), and 10th in the conference in saves per game (3.00).
 
Scouting Potsdam: The Bears are 1-1 overall so far this season … Potsdam lost its season opener on the road 5-2 to Scranton and had a 14-13 victory over Albright at a neutral location … The Bears are led by Eric Soderquist (five points off of four goals and one assist), Pat Bonafede (four points off of two goals and two assists), and Ed Doherty (four points off of two goals and two assists) … In the net for SUNY Potsdam is senior Pete Gropp (1-1 overall, 26 saves, 9.00 goals against average, and a .591 save percentage).
 
Against The Bears: Utica is 1-4 against SUNY Potsdam over the last five years … UC broke a string of four straight losses last year when they downed the Bears 6-4 … Two of the last five games against Potsdam were decided by just one goal.
