Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Downs SUNY Poly in Home Opener

UTICA, NY- The Utica College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as it cruised to a 12-4 victory over visiting SUNY Poly on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

Utica scored six goals in just under ten minutes before a lightning delay interrupted play with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter.  After nearly an hour stoppage, the Pioneers were able to get the momentum back as sophomore Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) scored with seven seconds remaining in the quarter.

Utica seemed to let up a bit as the Pioneers scored just five goals and allowed four tallies over the next 45 minutes of play.  Desveaux, Alex Finnegan (Bay Shore, NY/Islip), Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski), and Nick Yelich (Lancaster, NY/Depew) each finished with two goals on the day, while Liam Wheatley (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder), Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Bob Zattola (Somers, NY/Somers) also found the back of the net.  House, Finnegan, and Yelich also dished out two assists apiece.

Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown) made eight saves in 35:01 of action, while freshmen Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) and Brad Schulman (Airmont, NY/Suffern) combined for five stops in relief. The Wildcats had a good showing from R.J. Ferrucci, who turned aside 17 shots in the loss.

Utica (1-3) looks to carry its momentum into a non-conference tilt against SUNY Brockport Saturday in Falls Church Virginia.  Game time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
