Falls Church, Va. – The Utica College men's lacrosse team lost to Brockport State 14-5 in a neutral site contest at JEB Stuart Stadium in Falls Church, Virginia on Saturday. Utica leading scorer
Alex Finnegan (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) netted two goals and added two assists for the Pioneers, while
Matthew Miller (Geneva, NY/Geneva),
Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski) each added a goal apiece.
UC jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest when Finnegan netted a man-up tally, assisted by Miller. Brockport then netted four of the game's next five goals to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. UC's
Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski) tallied a man-up goal, assisted by Finnegan, to account for the second Pioneer goal.
The Golden Eagles then rattled off the first five goals of the second quarter to take a commanding 9-2 advantage with 3:41 to go before the half. Finnegan netted his second of the day with 1:05 left before the half to make it a 9-3 contest at intermission.
Miller opened the second half with his lone goal of the day to bring the Pioneers within five goals, 9-4. Brockport went on to score five of the game's final six goals to earn the 14-5 win.
Brockport improved its record to 4-1 overall and was led by seven goals from John Countryman. Liam Cannon chipped in with four goals and one assist.

Rusty Dessert (Islip, NY/Islip) added two caused turnovers a piece. Hanlon finished the day with a 9-for-20 effort in the face-off circle.

Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) stopped 12 shots in 60 minutes of work between the pipes for the Pioneers. Dallas Meyers and Conor Nowak split time in net for the Golden Eagles and combined to stop 13 shots. Brockport went 4-for-6 in extra-man opportunities compared to the Pioneers 2-for-7 effort.
Utica (1-4) returns to action on the road Wednesday when it travels to Keuka College (4 p.m.) for a non-conference contest.
