UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team capped off the American Heart Association Tournament with a 9-4 victory over Albright College on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers finished their opening weekend 1-1 and after losing to Buffalo State on Friday.
Five different players scored for UC while two players had two or more goals.
Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) led the team with four goals while
Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) was second on the team with two goals and had one assist.
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport),
Mary Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), and
Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford Greenwave) each had one goal.
Tewasherake Barnes (Akwesasne, NY/Salmon River) and
Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) added an assist apiece.
The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of the first half before Albright College got on the board with 12:35 left in the first. The Lions first goal was scored by Tori Meyer and assisted by Erin Farrell. Utica would score the next three goals to take a 6-1 lead. The Lions scored with 42 seconds left in the half to end the first 6-2.
Albright College scored three minutes into the second half to make it 6-3. The Pioneers scored the next three goals to secure a 9-3 lead. The Lions would score the final goal of the game with 6:17 left to play.
Jacqui Montague led Albright College with three goals while Erin Farrell had two assists, and Danielle Carey had one assist.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday (3/9/16) as they host Skidmore College at Charles A. Gaetano. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
