UTICA, NY – The Utica College baseball team fell 20-6 against Empire 8 Conference opponent Ithaca on Sunday. Utica is now 4-16 overall with a 4-8-conference record while Ithaca improves to 14-11 overall with a 6-3-conference record. The Pioneers return to action on the road against Oneonta on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
UC used four pitchers and started
William Winsman (Palatine Bridge, NY/Canajoharie). Winsman went 3.1 innings giving up 12 runs (six earned) and was given the loss.
Dom Caccioppoli (Circleville, NY/Pine Bush ) (1.2 innings pitched, two earned runs, and one strikeout),
James Corcoran (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) (0.2 innings pitched and six runs (one earned), and
Jarred Luczak (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) (3.1 innings pitched, three strikeouts, and one earned run) came into the game in relief.
Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) led the team with three RBI off of three hits and a run scored while
Brandon Thomas (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) had two RBI off of one hit and a run scored.
John Prendergast got the start for Ithaca and went five innings giving up four earned runs and striking out three. Andrew Bailey (three innings pitched, two earned runs, and two strikeouts) and Logan Barer (one inning pitched and no hits allowed) came into the game in relief.
Ithaca took a commanding 6-1 lead after the first inning and never looked back. In the second inning the Bombers added three runs to make it 9-1. Ithaca had a three run fourth inning to stretch the lead to 12-1. In the top of the fifth inning Ithaca would score a run while in the bottom of the fifth inning Utica would score three runs off of Thomas's two run double and
Christian Tiffin (Sherrill, NY/VVS)'s one run single to make it 13-4. The Bombers would retaliate with a six run sixth inning to make it 19-4. Utica would score one run in the sixth off of and RBI double by Quinlan and one run in the eighth inning after
Bryce Patterson (Corning, NY/Corning East) crossed home plate to make it 19-6. Ithaca would score an insurance run in the ninth inning to cap the scoring at 20-6.
