UTICA, NY – The Utica College baseball team travels to Empire 8 Conference opponent SUNY Canton on Saturday and Sunday for a three game set. The doubleheader on Saturday is set to start at 1 p.m. while the game on Sunday is scheduled for 12 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: Utica lost a close one 13-12 to Oneonta on Tuesday before beating SUNY Poly 10-6 and 18-7 in a doubleheader on Wednesday … The Pioneers are now 6-17 overall with a 4-8 conference record.
 
Conference Standings: Utica stands in fourth place in the conference ahead of Houghton (3-7 E8, 13-17 overall), SUNY Canton (3-9 E8, 9-19 overall), and Elmira (2-9 E8, 9-17 overall) … Stevens (10-2 E8, 19-11 overall), St. John Fisher (9-0 E8, 21-6 overall), and Ithaca (7-3 E8, 16-12 overall) are ahead of UC in the standings.
 
Freshman Phenom: Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) has had a promising start to his career and currently leads the team with a .446 batting average (25-for-56) in 15 games played this season … He leads the team with 22 RBIs and seven doubles … He also has four stolen bases … He has also been a rock on the defensive side of the ball, registering three errors and 26 assists. 
 
Mr. Consistency:  JT Ross (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) has played and started in all 23 games this season … Ross has a .363 batting average and leads the team with 33 hits … The junior transfer has five doubles, 16 runs scored, 16 RBIs and three stolen bases.

Doing It All: Senior Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ) has been steady all season and currently ranks third on the team with a .338 batting average … He has registered 26 hits, four doubles, and 11 RBIs to go along with five walks … He has also provided the Pioneers with some great work out of the bull pen as he has one victory, one save and has eight strike outs in 13.1 innings of work … He currently has a five game hitting streak where he is 11-for-25 to go along with seven RBIs.
 
Pitching Staff: Joshua Webb (Verona, NY/VVS) leads the team in innings pitched (31.2), strikeouts (33), and wins (2-2) … Ed Zakrzewski (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic) and William Winsman (Palatine Bridge, NY/Canajoharie) have also started for the Pioneers … Zakrzewski has pitched 20 innings with 16 strikeouts while Winsman has pitched 24.1 innings with 12 strikeouts … Dom Caccioppoli (Circleville, NY/Pine Bush ) has been reliable out of the bull pen for the Pioneers this season and boasts a 4.05 earned run average over 20.0 innings of work.
 
Ranking In The Empire 8: Ross is ranked ninth in the conference in batting average while Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ) is ranked 13^th in batting average (.338) and ninth in fielding percentage (0.993) … Senior pitcher Joshua Webb (Verona, NY/VVS) is ranked eighth in the conference in ERA (3.70), ninth in the conference in strikeouts (33), and 14^th in innings pitched (31.2).
 
Scouting SUNY Canton: The Kangaroos are 9-19 overall with a 3-9 conference record … Canton is currently on a four game losing streak falling three times to St. John Fisher and losing 19-8 against Clarkson … Wilson Matos leads the Roos offense with a .369 batting average, 38 hits, 25 runs scored, 23 RBIs, and five stolen bases … Travis Bigelow leads Canton on the mound with a 3.31 ERA, 51.2 innings pitched, and 33 strikeouts.
 
Against the Kangaroos: Utica is 4-2 against SUNY Canton all-time … Last year UC won both games on the road 15-11 and 4-2.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday when they face Empire 8 opponent Elmira in two games … The first game is a continuation of the April 2 game and will start in the sixth inning at 2 p.m.
