Utica, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team fell into an early 1-0 hole but quickly rallied back and earned a 4-2 victory over visiting Baruch College on the final day of the Utica College Invitational at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Sunday. UC's
Marcel Dupuis (Hannacroix, NY/Greenville) and
Bita Gazashvili (Tiblisi, Georgia) each registered one goal and one assist while senior
Joseph Hunter (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and freshman
Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) each registered their first collegiate goals.
The Pioneers (1-3) picked up their first win of the season and will now hit the road on Wednesday when they travel to Skidmore College to take on the Thoroughbreds at 6 p.m. All four teams went 1-1 at the UC Invitational as Skidmore topped Maritime 4-0 in the final game of the tournament on Sunday night.
Baruch opened the scoring just 1:57 into the contest when Oshae Miller netted his first of the year to put the Pioneers on their heels out of the gates.
It did not take long for Utica to dig in and fight back as freshman
Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) netted his first collegiate goal in the 13
th minute, assisted by senior
Marcel Dupuis (Hannacroix, NY/Greenville). The Pioneers took the lead 4:35 later when Dupuis registered his first goal of the year off an assist from
Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton).
UC took a 3-1 lead before the half when senior
Joseph Hunter (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) knocked home a loose ball in front of the net and posted his first career goal, assisted by Gazashvili.
Baruch kept the pressure on the Pioneers and made the score 3-2 at 46:13, but Utica was able to add an insurance tally off a corner kick in the 85
th minute to earn the two goal victory.
Bita Gazashvili (Tiblisi, Georgia) was credited with the goal and
Owen Gillam (Bristol, CT/Bristol) sent in the cross to earn an assist.
The Pioneers earned an 8-7 shots on goal advantage and Utica goalie
Matthew Milograno (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) stopped five shots on the afternoon to pick up his first win of the season. Baruch goalie Xavier Carrillo stopped four shots in net for the Bearcats.
