UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting Southern Vermont College at the Clark Gymnasium Tuesday evening. With the win, the Pioneers remain undefeated at home.
Utica led in all statistical categories including aces (11-5), kills (30-14), digs (38-28), and the Pioneers dominated at the net, racking up 11 blocks, while the Mountaineers did not record a single one.
Sophomore
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) had a career-high eight blocks and she added eight kills to lead the Pioneers. Freshman
Megan Weiss (Windsor, CT/Northwest Catholic) had an impressive showing as she totaled five aces and added 14 assists, both of which were game-highs.
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) combined for 12 kills, with Voss adding 10 asssits, and sophomore
Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) once again led the defense with 11 digs.
The Pioneers look to continue their momentum into this weekend's Plattsburgh Invitational. UC will face off against the Mountaineers again on Friday (7 p.m.) before taking on Plattsburgh (11 a.m.) and Elms (1:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
