UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team dropped its Empire 8 Conference opener as it fell to visiting St. John Fisher College 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Fisher jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Jaclyn Romano and Taryn Guinta scored just 1:07 apart. Guinta assisted on Romano's goal, while Romano and Niki Nigro recorded assists on Guinta's tally. Utica threatened in the 33
rd minute as sophomore
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) ripped a shot from 20 yards out that hit the crossbar and bounced wide.

Fisher tacked on two more scores in the second half to pick up its first conference win of the season.

Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made 13 saves in the loss, just one off her season-best, while St. John Fisher's Gabby Cotugno and Sarah O'Brien combined for three saves in the shutout win.Â

UC turns right around Sunday as it travels to nearby Clinton, NY for a non-conference contest against Hamilton College. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
