Field Hockey Falls to Stevens in E8 Action

UTICA, NY- Stevens Institute of Technology scored three goals in each half as it downed the Utica College field hockey team 6-2 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday morning.

For the second game in a row, senior Rachael Scaramuzzino (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) scored both Utica goals.  She now leads the team with eight points on the season.  Scaramuzzino opened the scoring at 3:38 as she tipped in a shot from classmate Tori Couture (Auburn, ME/Edward Little ) off a corner.

The Ducks responded however, by scoring three goals over the next 25 minutes to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.  Stevens kept up the pressure by netting two more tallies in the first nine minutes of the second half, before Scaramuzzino was able to notch her second score of the game at 55:14 to slow down the visitors.  Sophomore Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) assisted on the play.  Stevens tacked on a final goal in the last minute of play to remain unbeaten in the E8.

Junior Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) made 11 saves in net for Utica, while Emily Stukenborg and Darci Rota combined for eight saves in the win.

The Pioneers return to action Sunday as they travel to Keuka College.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
