Utica Drops a Pair at Empire 8 Crossover

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of Empire 8 Conference games against St. John Fisher College and Elmira College at an Empire 8 Crossover match hosted by Elmira on Saturday.

St. John Fisher downed Utica in straight sets 25-11, 25-14 and 27-25, while Elmira defeated Utica 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 25-13) in the night cap. The Pioneers are now 4-13 overall and 0-3 in Empire 8 play.

Over the course of two games senior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) totaled 17 kills, four blocks and two assists, while sophomore Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) added five kills, 30 assists and 19 digs. Sophomore Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) totaled eight kills and four blocks on the afternoon.

Against Fisher, Blaszak led the way with six kills, three blocks and one assist, and Herringshaw added five kills and two blocks, while Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) totaled four kills, a team-high 12 assists and 11 digs. Paige Klock (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) also chipped in with three blocks and Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) totaled nine digs.

Blazsak posted a team-high 11 kills in game two, while Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) added 18 assists and eight digs.  Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) totaled a team-best 14 digs against the Soaring Eagles.

Utica returns to the courts on Wednesday when it travels to SUNY Cobleskill to take on the Fighting Tigers at 7 p.m.
