CANTON, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team moved its win streak to four as it downed host SUNY Canton 2-0 in non-conference action Tuesday evening. Senior
Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) earned the clean sheet to move into first place on the College's career list with 12 shutouts to her credit.
The Pioneers opened the scoring just three minutes into the first period as junior
Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) netted her fifth of the year, tying
Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) for the team lead. Sophomores
Jennifer Liu (North Saanich, British Columbia/Shaftesbury Titans ) and
Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) recorded assists on Osowski's power play tally.
The Pioneers added an insurance goal at 3:36 of the second as Dion scored her third of the year. Junior
Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) and senior
Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) registered assists on the play.
That was all the Utica defense needed and Goin shut the door, finishing with 19 saves on the day. Utica was 1-for-5 on the power play, while holding the Kangaroos scoreless on four chances with the man advantage.
UC (7-4, 3-2 ECAC West) will look to carry its momentum into a big home-and-home series this weekend with ECAC West foe and nationally ranked No. 8/9 Oswego State. The Pioneers will travel to Oswego on Friday, with the teams wrapping up the season series in Utica on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. both days.
