UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team had its winning streak snapped as it fell to visiting St. John Fisher College, 74-59 in Empire 8 Conference action Tuesday evening.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the first 7:49 and never looked back as they picked up their second Empire 8 Conference win of the season.
Junior
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) led the Pioneers with 16 points and six rebounds. Mayo has now recorded 13 or more points in each of the last six games. Senior
Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) had a season-high 14 points, thanks to an impressive 10-for-12 outing from the free throw line. Junior
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) also scored in the double-digits as she finished with 12 points and a game-high five steals.
Sophomore
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had nine points, while
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead),
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah),
Coralynn Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley), and
Maggie Tabone (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) also scored.
The Cardinals outplayed Utica down low, outscoring the Pioneers 42-28 in the paint. Fisher had three players score over ten points, led by Caroline Robertson, Erin Hulbert, and Alyssa Robens.
The Pioneers look to rebound Saturday as they host Houghton College. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
