Women's Hockey Skates to 2-2 Tie with #4/5 Elmira

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team erased a two-goal first period deficit as it tied nationally ranked No. 4/5 Elmira College 2-2 in ECAC West Conference action Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) led Utica with two goals on the day.

With the tie, the Pioneers remain unbeaten at home with a 4-0-1 record.  On the year, Utica is 9-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in league play.  Elmira, meanwhile moves to 13-2-3 (10-0-1 ECAC West).  The teams return to action Sunday as they wrap up the season series in Elmira.  Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Soaring Eagles got on the board just 37 seconds into the game as Maddy Jerolman snuck a shot under the blocker of Utica goalie Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) and just inside the post for her eighth of the year.  Meg Lahey and Louisa Lippiatt Durnell assisted on the power play tally.

Elmira scored again at 9:07 of the first period as Rachel Grampp buried a centering feed from Anna Tude to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.  Johanna Eidensten also assisted on Grampp's second of the year.

Utica got one back at 18:53 as Dohner found the back of the net for her first of the day.  Senior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) took a feed from Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) at the top of the right faceoff circle.  Schnepp fired a shot that went off the far post and right to Dohner for the tap in.

Neither team was able to score in the second stanza, as Elmira went into the third period holding a 2-1 lead.  Dohner scored again just over halfway through the third as she took a feed from Schnepp and snuck the puck in between the legs of Elmira goalie Kelsey Crawford for her fifth of the year.  Senior Jane Pagano (Erie, PA/Tabor Academy) also assisted on the power play tally.

Goin finished with 33 saves, while Crawford had 24 for Elmira.  The Soaring Eagles were 1-for-3 on the power play, while UC scored on its only opportunity with the man advantage.
