Utica, NY - The Utica College women's tennis team hosted, Empire 8 rival, Stevens on Sunday. The Pioneers fell to 3-7 overall and 1-6 in the E8 after losing to the Ducks, 8-1.
In doubles competition, UC was unable to earn a point, falling in all three flights. In the third singles match,
Rebecca Bruce (St. Johnsville, NY/Oppenheim-Ephatah-St. Johnsville) made her first appearance of the season while freshman
Elma Selimovic (Utica, NY/Proctor) made her second showing of the year.
In the last home match of her career,
Lulu Zhang (Wenzhou, China/Newcomers) earned the single point for the team in her third singles matchup. Zhang defeated Stevens' Chelsea Braithwaite 7-6, 6-4. Sunday was also the last home match for graduate student,
Shannon Fillmore (Somerset, NJ/Franklin), and senior
Monica Johnson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool).
The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday for the final contest of the 2017 season. The team will travel to face Empire 8 opponent Sage. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
