UTICA, NY – The Utica College volleyball team swept visiting Bryn Mawr College and SUNY Delhi on Saturday at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium. The Pioneers topped Bryn Mawr 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-9) in game one and came back with another 3-0 win over the Broncos of SUNY Delhi in game two (25-15, 25-23, 25-22).
Utica's record improved to 7-17 overall on the season and they are now 5-4 on their home court. The Pioneers return to the hardwood on Tuesday when they host local rival Hamilton College for non-conference action at 6:30 p.m.
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with 19 kills and she also added eight blocks over the course of two victories.
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) had another stellar overall performance as she posted 17 kills, 18 digs and 11 aces.
Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) totaled 21 digs and seven aces, while
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) posted a team-high 23 assists, 11 digs and four aces on the day.
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) chipped in with 20 total assists.
In match one the Pioneers were firing on all cylinders as they cruised to a three game victory over Bryn Mawr. Herringshaw posted 11 kills and two blocks in game one. Voss added nine service aces, while Faroni led the way with 12 assists and seven digs to pace the Pioneers to the opening match victory.
Utica did not slow down in the nightcap as the Pioneers handled the Broncos of SUNY Delhi with relative ease. Voss posted a team-high 12 kills in the 3-0 win for UC.
Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) added a team-best 14 digs, while
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) posted a team-high 13 assists.
