UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team was upended by local rival, Hamilton College, 3-0, Tuesday evening at the Harold T. Clark Gymnasium.
After falling 25-14 in the first set, the Pioneers jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second set, before the Continentals shifted the momentum by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to regain control. Hamilton went on to take the second set 25-14, and cruised in the third set, 25-9 to come away with the victory.
Hamilton was ferocious at the net as the Continentals totaled 46 kills on the evening, compared to Utica's 14.
The Pioneers were led by junior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), who had five kills and three blocks on the evening. Classmate
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) had a team-high 14 digs and two service aces, and she also chipped in with three kills.
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) each tallied five assists on the night.
The Pioneers look to bounce back this weekend as they wrap up Empire 8 Conference play at Nazareth. UC will take on Alfred University at 1:30 p.m. before facing Nazareth College at 4 p.m.
